Jan. 25, 2016—Salyards Middle School eighth-grade student Makensie Garner is “an exceptional young lady,” according to Principal Liz Wood. The A/B honor roll student performs with the school choir, where she was selected as a region choir member. Garner, a sports enthusiast, plans to become a nurse or a writer.

Accomplishments: President of Salyards choir; performing member of the varsity choir; selected as a region choir member; member of Salyards' volleyball, basketball, and track teams; qualified for Junior Olympics with club volleyball team; A/B honor roll.
Favorite class: Language arts. “I love language arts because I have an awesome teacher, Mrs. [Kali] Dunson. I love to read and write and want to be a writer when I grow up.”
Favorite things to do after class: Watch Netflix, play club volleyball, spend time with family and friends.
Favorite song: “Hello” by Adele.
Favorite app: Instagram. “I like sharing my life with friends.”
Favorite TV show: Red Band Society. “This show was about cancer patients and hospitals. It had a great storyline and I got attached to the characters. I also am interested in nursing so I like the hospital setting.”
Favorite movie: Facing the Giants. “This movie is a reminder that with God, all things are possible.”
Ambition: To become either a nurse or writer. “I want to be a nurse because I want to take care of people and help them get better. I want to be a writer because I love to write.”
What topics/things are you passionate about? People treating each other with respect.
What inspires you? Jesus.
What three things can’t you live without? Jesus, family and sports.
What are you most looking forward to this semester? “I’m really looking forward to the eighth-grade formal and going to high school.”
